Domestic Resistance is a two-part program forging alliances around domestic work and labour diasporas. The event brings artists, activists, and workers from East and Southeast Asia together in critical conversation, exchange, and communal activity.
Domestic Resistance: Rasa & Asa
Domestic Resistance: Rasa & Asa is a screening and discussion centred around the Rasa & Asa (Flavors, Feelings, & Hopes) documentary project initiated by migrant Indonesian domestic workers during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown in Malaysia. Rasa & Asa celebrates their solidarity and creativity. Alongside recordings of online events, most of the footage in this film was shot by the Indonesian Migrant Domestic Workers Association (PERTIMIG) members themselves on their smartphones.

Domestic Resistance: Nohdong/노동 Nongkrong is special gathering bringing together artists, culture
workers, and activists from Malaysia and South Korea to share interconnected stories of domestic work and labour diasporas. During this participatory gathering, participants are invited to make and share jumeokbap riceballs, a common food-to-go of workers. “Nohdong” and “Nongkrong” carries the meaning of “labour” and “casual gathering” in Korean and Indonesian language respectively. Sharing stories, food, poetry, and anger, the afternoon forged new alliances outside of conventional mappings and art networks.
