Jo-Lene Ong is a curator in Amsterdam of Malaysian-Hokkien heritage. Her practice engages with counter-colonial ways of sensing, remembering, and organising. She got her start in the field at the intersection of art and civil society activism in Kuala Lumpur. Earlier this year while in residence at Delfina Foundation, she began recovering family history lost to the British war against the communist resistance in Malaya. This is expanding into a constellation of research on sensing erased histories, recovering ancestral knowledge and its convergence with new technologies. Jo-Lene is a program advisor for the 12th Seoul Mediacity Biennale and teaches at Gerrit Rietveld Academie where she is also part of Urgent Ecologies working group.
